National School Bus Safety WeekTazewell County Public Schools will recognize National School Bus Safety Week, October 19–23, by thanking its transportation employees and reminding the community to help keep students safe on and around school buses.

Across Tazewell County, school bus drivers travel mountain roads, navigate changing weather conditions, and connect students from communities throughout the county to their schools. Their work requires careful attention, sound judgment, and a daily commitment to student safety.

“Our drivers know their routes, their students, and the responsibility that comes with transporting them each day,” said Marcella Keene, Transportation Manager. “We ask everyone on the road to stay alert around school buses, pay attention to flashing lights, and watch for children at bus stops. Your patience and attention help our drivers keep students safe.”

TCPS encourages families to review bus safety with their children, including waiting safely away from the road, following the driver’s instructions, remaining seated while the bus is moving, and making sure the driver can see them before crossing.

“Our bus drivers are often the first school employees students see in the morning and the last they see in the afternoon,” said Dr. Chris Stacy, Superintendent of Tazewell County Public Schools. “We appreciate the care and consistency they bring to that responsibility. We also thank our transportation staff for the work behind the scenes that keeps our buses ready and our students moving safely.”

National School Bus Safety Week is a reminder that student safety takes cooperation among drivers, families, schools, and motorists. TCPS thanks its transportation team for serving students and families throughout Tazewell County.
